Fractals
A fractal is a complex geometric pattern that exhibits self-similarity at different scales. This means the overall shape is made up of smaller copies of itself repeated at progressively smaller scales. They are generated mathematically by iterating over simple rules but can also be found in nature. Fractals have a fractional dimension and contain an infinite amount of detail as you zoom in. Well-known examples include the Mandelbrot set, Julia sets, Koch snowflake, and Barnsley fern. Fractals are beautiful and fun!
The term "fractal" was coined in the 1970s. It comes from the Latin word "fractus" meaning "broken" or "fractured."
